Booker Prize winner Geetanjali Shree is Harper’s Bazaar Author of the Year

Author Geetanjali Shree, winner of the 2022 International Booker Prize, was honoured at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2024 held in Mumbai on Saturday. Geetanjali Shree won the award in the author’s category.
In her acceptance speech, Geetanjali Shree dedicated her award to Hindi literature. “I am really honoured and truly delighted to have been chosen for this award. But no award is just to the individual who gets it. The award is also to the world which has nurtured that individual and her work and has brought her here. So this award also belongs to Hindi and Hindi literature and to all literature in Indian languages,” she said.
Geetanjali Shree, the Hindi language novelist and short story writer, has captivated readers with her evocative storytelling. She has written six novels and five collections of short stories. Her work is translated into many Indian and foreign languages.
In 2022, Geetanjali Shree won the International Booker Prize for her novel, ‘Tomb of Sand’ (Ret Samadhi in the Hindi original). She became the first Indian writer to receive the accolade.
The novel also won the Warwick Prize for women in translation.
